Description
Acrocanthosaurus was an early Cretaceous relative of theropods such as Carcharodontosaurus and Giganotosaurus. While not as large as some of its relatives, it was the apex predator of the North American southwest. The genus is perhaps most well-known for its distinctive neural spines. It is doubtful the spines supported a sail, and instead there was probably a muscled ridge running down its back.
